What may not be sold
Last updated September 23, 2026
This is part of the terms of service. It applies to every listing, including advertisement listings. Advertising something is not a way around it.
The general rule
List only what you own, what you may legally sell, and what a carrier may legally ship. On top of that, the list below names specific categories, and the software enforces it automatically. A listing in one of these categories is refused as soon as you try to publish it.
The list is generated from the same rules the site enforces, so what you read here is what will happen.

Sold here, but never advertised
These are legal to sell secondhand, and you may list them. We do not send them to Google Shopping, because advertising networks will not show them. The restriction is on where they are advertised, not on you.
- Bows and crossbows cannot be advertised on Google Shopping.
- Bullion cannot be advertised on Google Shopping.
- Handcuffs cannot be advertised on Google Shopping.
- Radar detectors cannot be advertised on Google Shopping.
Why some of these, and not others
Some items are not allowed for reasons that have nothing to do with the item itself. findTreas never learns anybody’s date of birth. The identity check gives us a pass or fail result and a name, and nothing else, so we cannot tell how old a buyer is. Rather than pretend to restrict age-restricted goods by age, we do not allow them at all. Weapons, alcohol and tobacco are all on the list for that reason. The last two are covered by the line about food and drink, which includes that whole category.
Others are there because carriers will not ship them, or because selling them at all requires a license we do not check for.
Some things people expect to see here are deliberately left off, and will stay off: toys and games, most baby and toddler goods, media, software and batteries are all fine.
Beyond the list
The categories above are checked automatically. These rules apply whatever the category:
- Nothing counterfeit, and nothing that infringes somebody else’s rights.
- Nothing stolen.
- Nothing recalled, and nothing subject to a safety notice.
- No listing that misrepresents what it is, such as a reproduction described as an original, or a broken item described as working.
- No photos you do not have the right to use.
- Nothing whose purpose is to harass, threaten or defraud somebody.
Separately from what a listing may be for, there are three rules about how a listing is put together: one item per listing, no duplicates, and the right category. They are in the terms of service, and a listing can be removed for breaking them as it can for anything above.
If we take something down
Anybody signed in can report a listing. We read reports oldest first. Nothing is hidden automatically by being reported. A person decides.
Software also checks listing photos. If it thinks a photo shows something that cannot be sold here, the listing is hidden right away and a person reviews it afterward. If it thinks the photos do not match the listing, nothing is hidden and a person looks first. Neither of those is a decision, and neither counts against you. Only a person taking a listing down counts.
Every removal comes with a reason, and you are given it in the same words we recorded. If you think it was wrong, reply to that message. If a listing was hidden by the photo check, you can reply on the listing itself, which gets it reviewed before everything else. A removal takes the listing off the site. It does not refund a sale already made, which is a separate decision.
Having several listings removed can stop you publishing new ones for a while. Your existing listings stay on sale, your orders are unaffected, and it ends automatically. Repeatedly listing prohibited items can get the account suspended. A suspension hides your listings and stops you buying and selling, deletes nothing, and can be lifted. Both are explained in full in the terms.
Some categories were restricted after listings already existed in them. Those listings are not removed automatically. An existing listing stays up until somebody reviews it, but if you edit one, the rule is checked again and your changes will not be saved.
